| During the October Half Term 4 teams represented Elite from all of our centres to play games in the North East against Sunderland, Newcastle, Darlington, Hull City, York City, and Whitburn and Cleaden. The teams left on the Sunday and the massive task for our under 16's was to jump off the coach and play against Premiership outfit Hull CIty. The game was a good start to the tour and with a few tired bodies the players done well. On Monday it was the other teams turn and they went to face Darlington. All teams had bonded well and the first game for all they all had to find their feet. With our teams being more than competative the players showed a good account of themselves attempting to play good football at all times. Sunderland Academy hosted us on Tuesday and all the team were treated to some of the best facilities in the country. The games again were very close and our under 14's and 16's both done well creating chances but more importantly not looking overwhelmed or overshadowed by either teams put out by Sunderland. The other two teams played against local side Whitburn and Cleaden who were an age group above what our players were. It was nice to see the results of going to Elite compared to a club side with the 13's and 15's both playing good passing football against players older and stronger (in some cases) than themselves. The evening again was a night on the 'Toon' to watch Sunderland play Aston Villa in the Carling Cup tie. Players received a discounted ticket and definately got their moneys worth after the game went to extra time and penalties. On the Wednesday the 13's and 14's had their day of rest and enjoyed the surrounding area in the soccer dome, wet and wild swimming, bowling, and shopping centre. The other two age groups travelled to play York City. On again a great surface both sides encountered a tough side where although starting slow they ended up both being the stronger team which again is encouraging when facing a proffessional team. A 2 hour trip faced the 13's and 14's on the Thursday travelling to play Hull City. Playing like for like 13sv13s 14sv14s they had their work cut out and when both games kicked off the opposition were as strong as we seen all week. The Elite players stuck at the task and learned a great deal about what they are up against at the highest level. The under 16's faced Darlington and played some of the best football they had played all week. Now relaxed and playing as a team the side performed well and really showed us and the opposition the potential each and every player has. The final day after a good week, saw us face Necastle United's Academy where again the facilities were first class. This last fixture was an opportunity to group together the players of the under 13's and 14's and also the players of the under 15's and 16's to play against Newcastles under 13's and 14's. Both games were full of goals and was a great display of football to end the tour. The behaviour on a whole was superb and it was a great experience for everyone who attended. To have the opportunity to play at some of the countries top facilities as well as meet new players, understand the standards and proffessionalism of being at a club and also realising the recovery and nutrition players need to perform was vital. For all players/parents who have photographs of the tour and you wish to share these with the centre and possiby be shown on the website please email them through to the office at admin@elitedc.org. Our next trip/tour will be during the February Half term on a similar basis to this one. We are looking at travelling to London, The North West, or Yorkshire. If you are interested in coming on the next tour please ensure you apply to come along once the details are released. 02/11/2009 12:09:23 | |
