Physio And Treatment

Physio And Treatment

Every coach at Elite is First Aid trained to F.A guidelines. If for any reason a player is injured during a home or away game coaches should be prepared properly. If for any reason a player goes down with an injury a coach will follow the procedure set out by the F.A in the treatment and management of injuries.

SALTAPS is the set procedure for recognising an injury to a player on the field of play.

S= see injury occur

A= ask player questions about the injury or ABC for unconscious player,

L= Look at the injury,

T= touch – palpate the injured part,

A= Active movements from player,

P= passive movements by therapist,

S= strength – players movements redidted by therapist.

PRICED is another used for minor injuries as a guide to a coach or player for recovery

P= protect the player from further injury,

R= rest the injury,

I= Ice the injury,

C- compress any bleeding,

E= elevate the injury,

D= diagnose if possible the injury or the reason.

Most injuries that occur will be minor, but in the case of a major injury a player will require immediate recognition and prompt, appropriate action. A coach would inform parents/guardians using your emergency contact numbers, an assistant or head coach will either attend hospital with the player or take over a role as coach for the remaining players. Although you can never estimate the extent of an injury or waiting time at a hospital transport will be organised for you by Elite.

COACHES OR STAFF SHOULD NOT – move the injured player, change or alter the players position, or remove any equipment, as this could cause further harm.

STAFF SHOULD – immediately organise for an ambulance to be called for specialist attention, steady and comfort the player by making him as comfortable as possible.

Whilst we do not expect the most serious of injuries to occur we have put these procedures in place if this should happen at a game.

An accident report form will follow an injury.

For parent s and players it is essential that all contact information is kept up to date, i.e change of address, telephone numbers home and mobiles, and email addresses. Medical changes should be kept up to date with information on medication, allergies, or developing conditions (asthma/diabetes).

After an injury it is important the relevant coach or heads office is informed of his or her progress to recovery. If any specialist treatment is needed we can offer advice and assistance in this area.
