| Results at Elite are not part of the development of the players. We will therfor not publish any result of games played unless in a tournament format. It is widely discussed that results can hinder the development of a player and especially when players travel a distance to a game let in a couple of goals it can affect the way they play in the remainder of the game. We feel that by not recording the scores of games we can again further advance the development of a player by learning from how the goal was scored and ways of preventing this. Players are normally taken from a "comfort zone" and placed in an environment where they are asked to play certain roles and try certain things. If they fear making mistakes or conceding goals they will not attempt what is being asked of them therfor not learning or developing. What was the score?? -This is commonly a version of the question asked of players by parents who could not manage to watch the game in person. Not enquiring after a players personal performance, what they had done better than in their last games, what they had found difficult in the game or even if they had tried their hardest and enjoyed the game? How did the game go? - The way in which we at Elite ask players, coaches and sometimes parents when we have not managed to see a game. If they tell us the score first we keep asking until they tell us what we need and mor eimportantly what we want to know. The difference in the questions have a huge bearing on how players view their experience of matches. The first question can totally 'crush' a player who may have made great improvements and understood new things, but may have ended up on the defeated team. We have found the second question encourages a boy/player to immediately assess his own performance, strengths or weaknesses without the pressure of the 'result' and can help build open relationships, which allows the player to untimately develop. | |
