Elite views its coaching syllabuses as flexible working documents which each coach should follow in principle. The Syllabus for each age group is broken down into a number of blocks. Coaches are advised to be flexible in their approach to timetabling the blocks. It is important that each coach provides thorough instruction in each block, and ensures that all players in their age group have fully grasped the essential information related to each topic before moving on to the next block. The Games Programme should be regarded as an extension of the Coaching Programme. Teams should be coached in Games mainly to put into practice the information on the topics they have been given in the coaching sessions. This should be the absolute priority at all times. Within that context, the scoreline of individual matches are of no significance whatsoever. Each coach should: Prior to Session: · Plan the session completing an Advanced Development Centre Session Plan · Set up session prior to start time where possible. Start of Session · Take register · Check players are wearing appropriate clothing. No jewellery to be worn at any time. Players should look smart and tidy. · Ensure players are fit and well · Check that all players have a drink with them · Introduce the session End of Session · Debrief the Group · Check for Understanding and give appropriate feedback · Provide relevant information regarding forthcoming session or game · Return register to Head Coach · Evaluate Session Syllabus Schoolboys U8s,U9s,U10s Individual - Fun - Ball Contact - Fact Finding - General Overall Development, ABCs – Agility, Balance and Coordination) - Speed, power and endurance through fun and games - Correct running, jumping and throwing techniques, Technique and Skills - Running, turning and dribbling - Passing - First Touch (inside Foot, soft touch, big touch) - Body-shape (receiving) - Using body to protect ball - Different surfaces to control the ball i.e chest, thigh - Heading technique - Ability Basic Fitness - Balance and Coordination - Agility - Freedom Self Expression - 2v2, 3v3, 3v1, 4v2 and 4v4 games - Zones and Cones - Directional games, using benches, 4 goals, 6 goals Goalkeepers - Basic shot stopping techniques - Introduction to dealing with crosses - Introduction to organising defence - Introduction to Start positions - Basic kicking (both from hands and floor) and Throwing Syllabus Schoolboys Under 11s, Under 12s Individual - Continue to development Agility, Balance and Coordination - Continue to develop speed power and endurance through fun games - Own body exercises for strength - Basic flexibility exercises - Warm up and stretching Technique and Skills - Running, turning and dribbling - Strong emphasis on technical development - Fundamental Techniques progressively refined - Practice Techniques - Modified and small sided games - Passing - First Touch - Body-shape (receiving) - Using body to protect ball - Different surfaces to control the ball i.e chest, thigh - Heading technique Decision Making - Creating Space - Exploiting Space - Passing and Support - Movement and runs (forwards, sideways and back) - Inventive play, self-expression - 3v3, 4v2, 4v4,6v6,8v8,9v9 games Goalkeepers - Shot Stopping Techniques - Dealing with Crosses - Organising Defence - Start Positions - Kicking (both from hands and floor) - Throwing Syllabus Schoolboys Under 13s and Under 14s COACHING FOR 11 v 11 GAMES INDIVIDUAL - Positive Attitude - Confidence - Concentration - Achieve success and receive positive reinforcement - Confidence DEFENDING - Pressing - Cover - Balance - Recovery - Defend Penalty Area - Back-line of four ATTACKING - Taking care of the Ball - Running, turning and dribbling - Passing - First Touch - Body-shape (receiving) - Using body to protect ball - Creating space - Exploiting space - Passing and support - Movement and runs (forwards, sideways and back) GOALKEEPERS - Shot stopping Techniques - Dealing with Crosses - Organising Defence - Start Positions - Kicking (both from hands and floor) - Throwing Syllabus Schoolboys Under 15s,16s INDIVIDUAL - Personal responsibility and involvement in decision making - Focus and thought control - Goal setting (long term) - Performance routines and pre-competition preparation. - Imagery (competition, different situations/problem solving, practising strategies) - Continued personal development DEFENDING - Pressing - Cover - Balance - Recovery - Defend Penalty Area - Back Line of Four - Back Line of Five COUNTER-ATTACKING - Defending third - Midfield third - Attacking third REGAINING POSSESSION - Decision making - Maintaining structure - Strikers between two defenders SELF EXPRESSION - Keeping Possession - Using body to protect ball - Creating Space - Exploiting Space - Touch, pass, movement - Forward, across, back - Around, through, over - Observe and adapt to opponents - Specific techniques and skills played under competitive conditions at a high intensity - Adaptation to situation - Defending third, midfield third, attacking third - Risk v Safety GOALKEEPERS - Shot Stopping Techniques - Dealing with Crosses - Organising defence - Start Positions - Kicking (both from hands and floor) - Throwing |
